The anti-talks faction of the proscribed United Liberation Front of Asom on Thursday flayed the police and security forces of the "colonial Indian government" for "killing four Assamese youth", branding them as Maoists, at Sadiya in Tinsukia district. In a statement issued to the media, the ULFA stated that failure of the Indian democracy to improve the condition of the masses has led to an upsurge of Maoist movement in the country.

A mother and her youngest son were killed when their house caved under the pressure of a landslide in Kahilipara hill area of Guwahati city late on Tuesday night after a heavy downpour. According to the police, Anita Saikia, 38, and her youngest son Krishna Saikia, 3, were killed when their house was damaged due to the landslide that occurred at around 10.30 pm.

Residents of Uzan Bazar, in the heart of Guwahati, took to the streets to protest against the tragic death of a 13-year-old school girl, after she fell into an open manhole in the pavement. Sagarika Bora was walking on the pavement of Uzan Bazar on April 12 along with her mother when she suddenly fell inside an uncovered manhole on the pavement. She sustained serious injuries and later died in the hospital on April 19 after battling for her life for nearly a week.
